Westland is a lawn care company that produces fertilizer and spreaders for top dressing. They’ve been around for a while now, and many of their products have made it into US households that are in need of proper care products for their lawn.

Although their product line primarily constitute of fertilizers and soil treatments, they do have some lawn spreaders which are often promoted by the side, along with their main soil treatment products. The problem with these spreaders is that, unlike the heavy farm spreaders, they don’t have a dedicated spreader chart, making it quite difficult to calculate application settings for different products.

"westland

While that’s the case, Westland’s soil treatment products always have their spreader settings added to the pack or carton of the product. However, the story changes when you purchase products from other brands; most times you won’t get to see a spreader setting for Westland Lawn spreaders.

Luckily, this article will be solving some of the problems for you; we’ve tested the Westland Lawn Spreaders on popular third-party soil treatment products, and also on some generic products used in banding to come up with an accurate Westland spreader settings guide.

Westland Spreader Settings

Westland spreaders, as with most durable spreaders out there is easy to calibrate. It’s always recommended to start with a tighter calibration, using no more than ¼ of the entire yard for your testing, and proceeding to work on the entire lawn when you get a reasonable calibration.

While that’s the case, here are some Westland spreader settings you can use for starters and tweak as you go. As usual, we’ll start with what you may have already known (Westland products), and proceed to ‘uncharted’ territory.

While these spreader settings may be tried and true, other factors like the age of the spreader and maintenance can also affect your calibration. Make sure you always start a small portion of the lawn and set it up a notch when you get it right.

How to Know when to Apply Fertilizers to Your Lawn

Take a sample of your grass for testing to determine if it’s a warm-season or cool-season plant. Ideally, you want to add fertilizers to warm-season grass twice every spring and fall. Applications (for both spring and fall) should be at 30-days intervals, and the first application should ensue when new growth begins.

On the other hand, cool-season grass varieties should be fertilized once in the spring and twice during the fall. For the case of application during the fall, make sure you give a 30-days interval in the application. For special cases during banding, you should always apply the grass and fertilizer at the right time, following the type of grass you’re planting.

You can carry out these tests at your local county extension office or simply Google the breed of grass to get its information. This rule goes universally for all types of fertilizers; however, soil treatment products are usually applied when there is an issue with the turf.
